Psychodrama is an action-based group therapy technique developed by Jacob Moreno. It is a spontaneous, experiential, therapeutic tool that is used to process our internal conflicts, recognize our strengths and weaknesses and build character through making healthy choices.
Psychodrama creates a cathartic effect through emotional release. In a safe, confidential environment, led by a facilitator, members role-play sensitive events from their lives that are holding them emotionally hostage, and trapping them in old destructive messages, behaviors and stereotypes.
A psychodramatic experience has the potential of changing the intrapsychic and somatic imprints of trauma by accessing the traumatic neural network and providing the client with a safe way of renegotiating their trauma and facilitating a completion of the central nervous system's survival responses (fight/flight/freeze).
